tubman.network e.V. empowers organisations and individuals of African and Afro-diasporic backgrounds. As a community-led organisation, we work to coordinate assistance and support for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour, particularly those displaced by conflict, including individuals fleeing war-torn regions like Ukraine, Sudan, and Congo.
Additionally, people of all ages affected by racism and other forms of discrimination receive ongoing support and advocacy from our network.
Our activities include commUnity building, commUnity art, empowerment workshops, Afro-centric education, and creative therapies such as sand play and art therapy to overcome trauma as a result of racism and war.

What else do we do?
Recognising that inclusive community-based assistance and anti-discriminatory work can only be successful if the community itself is strengthened, tubman.network has expanded its activities to focus on initiatives that empower people from African and Afro-diasporic descent in Germany and on our mother continent of Africa.
We assist with securing housing solutions, provide guidance on study options, offer internship and voluntary work opportunities, refer individuals for legal assistance and paid employment. Additionally, we offer psychosocial support with highly qualified counsellors of African origin, facilitate educational workshops, keynote speeches, and presentations for schools, as well as statutory and voluntary sector organizations. We contribute to the development of a curriculum that embraces an Africa-centred perspective. Our organisation collaborates with over 50 other organisations, dedicated to ongoing professionalisation and capacity expansion, with the goal of continually enhancing our ability to meet the diverse needs of our communities.

our community
We believe in the strength of commUnity and invest much of our work in CommUnity building, with a clear focus on African, Afro-diasporic and BIPoC people inclusive their white family members. We believe in the importance of intergenerational CommUnity events and CommUnity art to celebrate our diversity and nurture Black Joy as a form of resistance.
“A true community begins in the hearts of the people involved. It is not a place of distraction but a place of being.
A people that lives as a community takes ritual as the soil upon which its future grows. A community that does not have a ritual cannot exist.” Malidoma P. Somé
“Beloved community is formed not by the eradication of difference but by its affirmation, by each of us claiming the identities and cultural legacies that shape who we are and how we live in the world.
To build community requires vigilant awareness of the work we must continually do to undermine all the socialisation that leads us to behave in ways that perpetuate domination.” bell hooks
