Our Vision

empowering, unifying and building futures

At tubman.network, we envision a world where every individual, regardless of their background, experiences a just and dignified life.

Our journey began in February 2022, driven by the urgency to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, fleeing war-torn regions, notably those affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

Guided by the principle of creating a just and dignified life, tubman.network is committed to sustainable development. Our efforts are rooted in fostering a sense of belonging, eliminating discrimination, and contributing to the collective advancement of BIPoC communities.

In accordance with national and international conventions such as the Allgemeine Gleichbehandlungsgesetzt (AGG), the Sustainable Developement Goals of Agenda 2030, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Geneva Refugee Convention, the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, the European Convention on Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights ICCPR and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, we strive to end inequality, poverty and instead foster equal access to health, education, opportunities and infrastructure.

tubman.network, collaborating with Bantu e.V., Gaidi, Kindezi and many other partners, stands as a beacon of strength for organisations and individuals of African and Afro-diasporic descent.

Recognising the systemic challenges faced by our commUnity, we unite to bridge the gaps left by conventional support structures. We aim to foster Black joy through commUnity building, commUnity events and commUnity art.

“Black joy is restorative; regenerative; and generous. It offers the opportunity to go beyond the shallow waters of happiness – a temporary feeling that relies on circumstances outside of ourselves – into the depth and complexity of an emotion and way of being that comes from within and connects us to ourselves as well as the community of which we are part.” Kleaver Cruz

“Unlike happiness; joy is a lasting state that can be sustained even when everything is not the we want it to be. Beloved community is formed not by the eradication of difference but by its affirmation, by each of us clainging the identities and cultural legacies that shape who we are and how we live in the world.” bell hooks

Our commitment extends beyond immediate relief. We are architects of comprehensive change – employing initiatives such as commUnity building, commUnity art, and empowerment workshops. We provide advocacy, career and legal counseling, education, paid work opportunities, culturally sensitive psycho-social support and creative therapies like sand play and art therapy. We acknowledge and address the profound impact of racism and war-induced trauma.

Our reach extends beyond borders. Tubman.network empowers individuals in Germany and across the African continent. We work on capacity building with a network of partner organisations and Black businesses and connect people with paid work opportunities, supportive social circles, and professional networks.

From inception, we understood the power of digitalisation in outreach and engagement. Today, our organisation is a testament to the efficacy of streamlined processes, leveraging social media and digital platforms. What began as a rapid response to the needs of thousands of refugees has evolved into a professionally structured entity supported by legal frameworks.

Tubman.network has already touched the lives of approximately 5,000 individuals. Through our open-source digital platform, we have organised 24 working groups, bringing together diverse talents and passions. Temporary housing, provided by generous members of our community, has supported 4,000 people. Our team, managing around 1,000 requests monthly, remains dedicated to making a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.

We celebrate a milestone as our constitution, crafted with dedication, received approval from the German tax office.

Tubman.network is grateful for the guidance of our legal advisor, Arinze Odenigbo, whose wise counsel has paved the way for our continued impact and for Bantu e.V., who have provided us with a legal framework in the transition period.

At tubman.network, we stand united, committed to empowering, unifying, and building futures — one individual, one commUnity at a time.
