Workshop with Stipendiaten des Deutschen Bundestags

Amal Abbass of tubman.network had the privilege of being invited twice to teach Stipendiaten des Deutschen Bundestags about Ehrenamtliches Engagement. Firstly, she addressed Stipendiaten from Arabische Staaten, and secondly, African Stipendiaten. This program holds significant educational prestige, attracting elite individuals, many of whom have been educated in expensive private institutions. During these sessions, Abbass posed several questions that unfortunately stumped the participants. For instance, Abbass asked them to name female heads of state from African countries (there are at least 22), a visual artist of African heritage, and the yearly celebration in German kindergartens that honors a Black man (St. Martin). The inability to answer these questions underscored the importance of Afro-centric curriculum, not just in Europe but globally.
